"From Bastard to Knight of the Realm: The Spectacular Success Story of Sir Ernest Wallis Budge"

The anthropologist, African traveler, and writer Geoffrey Clarfield recently published an excellent article on Wallis Budge: Magic and Mummies in London and Cairo (Revised Edition, 2021) in Academic Questions. The article also includes some of my own thoughts on Budge, the history of Egyptology, and the weird prejudices that surround any discussion of Budge.
